Dr. Heather Guest, Ph.D., R.N., the Abilene Regional Dean for the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) School of Nursing, recently visited De Leon High School (DHS) to speak with DHS Health Science students about premier nursing pathways.
During her visit, Dr. Guest explored academic tracks at the nearby Abilene campus and explained how students' current high school coursework can transition into TTUHSC's top-ranked nursing programs. She also highlighted the valuable Hendrick Nursing partnership, including the Abilene Model—a unique academic collaboration that allows nursing students to earn clinical credits while working directly at Hendrick Health. This presentation emphasized the incredible local support system, including Hendrick's student career programs and dual-credit scholarship opportunities, which pave a clear, affordable path for DHS students to achieve their healthcare goals close to home.
"The DHS Health Science program is incredibly grateful to Dr. Guest and Cinda Alexander for taking the time to visit our school and inspire our students! We are absolutely thrilled about this phenomenal partnership with TTUHSC and Hendrick Nursing. It is an extraordinary program that opens up wonderful, life-changing opportunities for our students to pursue their healthcare dreams right here at home!"
