De Leon, TX – The future of healthcare got a firsthand look on Friday, December 5, 2025, as a group of enthusiastic Health Science students from De Leon High School (DHS) traveled to Abilene to participate in a Health Science Symposium hosted by Hardin-Simmons University (HSU).
The symposium, organized by HSU's College of Health Professions and the Big Country AHEC was designed to introduce high schoolers to advanced collegiate-level health science programs and diverse career paths.
Diverse Programs: DHS students attended sessions focused on disciplines like Nursing, Physical Therapy, Speech-Language Pathology, and Health Promotion. The presentations gave them a deeper understanding of the rigorous academic requirements and the day-to-day work in these fields.
The educational trip provided the students with an invaluable opportunity to explore various facets of the healthcare profession, connect with university faculty, and engage in hands-on learning experiences.
